Katarina Lalic is a painter (b.1998) born in London.
She currently works in her studio in Hackney, predominantly in oil.
Katarina’s creative process is characterised by layers of paint creating abstractions of natural sites and landscapes. Whether capturing the contours of mountains or caverns within seashells, Katarina's paintings convey place and time in nature through dense paint and vigorous brushstrokes.
Drawing from fragmented memories of landscapes and encounters with nature, she reconstructs these impressions into new, discombobulated scenes on linen, through layering, burying, and scraping paint. Natural subjects move fluidly through her paintings. Sometimes they consume the entire surface; at other times, they are reduced to a single brushstroke—the texture of a petal or a fragment of land.
The resulting works remain deliberately ambiguous, allowing viewers to form their own interpretations and, in doing so, imaginatively place themselves within the paintings' fantastical spaces.
